Creative Evolution Henri Bergson - Creative Evolution provides an alternate explanation for Darwin's mechanism of evolution, suggesting that evolution is motivated by an élan vital, a "vital impetus" that can also be understood as humanity's natural creative impulse. The book was very popular in the early decades of the twentieth century, before the Neodarwinian synthesis was developed.[citation needed] The book also develops concepts of time (offered in Bergson's earlier work) which significantly influenced modernist writers and thinkers such as Marcel Proust. For example, Bergson's term "duration" refers to a more individual, subjective experience of time, as opposed to mathematical, objectively measurable "clock time." In Creative Evolution, Bergson suggests that the experience of time as "duration" can best be understood through creative intuition, not through intellect.

En 1915, ya iniciada la Primera Guerra Mundial, Henri Bergson escribió el opúsculo titulado "La filosofía francesa", para la Exposición Universal de San Francisco. Años después, en 1933, en otro contexto histórico muy complejo, reeditó con su discípulo Édouard Le Roy una nueva versión de la obra. Es así como Bergson pasó a formar parte de una larga tradición de pensadores que cultivó el género de la historia de la filosofía francesa, tradición en la que se han destacado autores como Taine, Boutroux, Wahl y Badiou, entre otros. La presente edición crítica, primera en lengua hispana, incluye las variantes de ambas versiones e incorpora una serie de textos que ayudan a comprenderla y a ampliar su alcance. En el estudio preliminar se analiza el marco histórico político de la redacción, y se profundiza sobre todo en su dimensión filosófica. Dada la distancia temporal con algunos de los filósofos y científicos mencionados en el opúsculo, a los que no siempre se ha estudiado en el ámbito hispanoamericano (al menos en su relación con la filosofía bergsoniana), también se presentan de manera sintética los vínculos intelectuales que Bergson mantiene con ellos. El presente volumen fue preparado por el doctor Jorge Martin, profesor e investigador universitario, que con anterioridad ha publicado en Miño y Dávila Siris. Empirismo e idealismo platónico en el siglo XVIII, del filósofo irlandés George Berkeley.
